A recent Health Affairs blog post references the work Greg Fann has been spearheading in looking at the ACA and the effects of Silver Loading. The link to Greg’s article calls out the quote: “heeding the fundamental actuarial principle” for the link. While the Health Affairs post details many of the sustainability challenges facing the ACA, it concludes with a quote fitting for the counter-intuitive situation Greg has identified in the ACA markets:
“But until further research demonstrates the effects of such alternative policies and identifies win-win solutions with outcomes that far surpass the results described here, policy makers should think long and hard before discarding the silver-loaded fruits of actuarial wisdom.”
