Tim Smith is a partner at Axene Health Partners, LLC and leads the AHP Pittsburgh office. With a deep background in analytics and 20+ years in the industry, Tim consults regularly with clients throughout the healthcare industry including health systems, provider groups, and health insurers. He is especially focused on developing practical, data-supported solutions for his clients, customized to each client’s immediate needs and longer-term strategies. Client projects have ranged from strategic design of analytics and reporting systems, to development of alternative payment models, to complete outsourcing of actuarial work. Prior to joining Axene Health Partners, LLC in 2015, he led Highmark Health’s Enterprise Actuarial and Informatics activities. In that role, Tim was responsible for their value-based reimbursement models, tiered-network products, population health analytics, specialty efficiency and care alignment, and provider contract optimization. Prior to this he led medical economics and care cost analysis for Coventry Health Care.
Tim is responsible for leading AHP’s presence in the Pittsburgh area opening up the firm’s first office in that area. This effort is part of AHP’s expansion plans. His expertise helps the firm’s already strong expertise in working with both health plans, health systems and various provider groups.
Tim is a frequent speaker on health care and medical economics and analytics information. He has been an adjunct professor at Penn State University School of Business.
Tim holds a Master of Science in information systems and a Bachelor of Science in mathematics from Penn State University. He is an Associate of the Society of Actuaries and a Member of the American Academy of Actuaries. He lives in the Pittsburgh area with his wife and two children.
